What Walter is
Walter is a private personal library that lets you save, import, organize and search internet content: links, videos, articles, images, recipes, places, tutorials and products. Your library is private to your account by default.
Information you provide
- Account information, including your email address.
- Display or profile information you choose to add.
- URLs and links you save to Walter.
- Screenshots and images you upload.
- Files you deliberately import, such as platform data exports.
- Support communications you send us.
Information Walter creates from saved content
To make what you save findable, Walter processes the content you save (where it is accessible) and may create:
- titles and summaries;
- transcripts of audio or video;
- text extracted from images (OCR);
- content classifications, shelves and categories;
- structured recipe, tutorial and place information;
- tags and recognized entities;
- search representations (embeddings) used to find items again.
This processing exists to provide the Walter service to you.
Information imported from third-party services
When you explicitly connect a supported service or upload an export from it, Walter may receive the data you authorized. Depending on availability, this may include:
- TikTok Data Portability transfers you request;
- supported YouTube playlists;
- social-platform data export files you upload yourself.
What is available depends on the external platform and on the authorization you give. Walter does not have access to Instagram Saved content through an official Instagram API.
OAuth and connected accounts
- Walter may receive authorization tokens from supported services when you connect them.
- Tokens are used only to perform the connection and imports you requested.
- Walter does not collect or store your passwords for third-party services.
- You can disconnect a supported account at any time.
How Walter uses data
- Providing the service and your account.
- Saving and organizing your content.
- Processing content you import.
- Search and retrieval within your library.
- Synchronization you explicitly authorize.
- Security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting.
- Responding to support requests.
- Improving reliability and product quality, where legally permitted.
Walter does not sell your personal data, and does not use your library for advertising.
AI processing
Walter uses automated and AI systems to understand and organize the content you save. This may include processing text, images, audio and transcripts, and metadata associated with the content. Automatic analysis can be incomplete or wrong; the original source remains the authoritative version. Walter is not an AI chatbot.
Service providers
Walter uses a small number of providers to run the service. They process data on our instructions and only as needed to deliver their part of the service. The current categories are:
- Hosting, database, authentication and file storage — Supabase.
- Website and application hosting / content delivery — Lovable and its hosting infrastructure.
- Content acquisition — Apify, used to retrieve publicly accessible content for items you save.
- AI processing — AI model providers used to generate titles, summaries, transcripts, text extraction, classifications and search representations.
We update this list when our providers change. If you need the current detailed list of subprocessors, write to hey@savewalter.com.
International transfers
Some of our providers operate outside the European Economic Area, which means your data may be processed in other countries, including the United States. Where that happens we rely on the transfer mechanisms offered by those providers under their data processing terms. If you would like details of the arrangements applying to a specific provider, contact hey@savewalter.com.
Retention
- Content in your library is kept until you delete the item, delete your account, or we are required to remove it.
- Credentials and tokens for connected accounts are removed when the connection is no longer needed or when you disconnect the service.
- Uploaded platform-export files that are only needed for parsing are deleted once parsing has completed.
- Limited records may be kept where required for legal, security or accounting reasons.
Your rights
If you are protected by the GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict and port your data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Make a request through savewalter.com/data-requests or by writing to hey@savewalter.com. We may need to verify your identity first. You also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority — in Portugal, the CNPD.
Account deletion
You can request deletion of your Walter account and library at any time by emailing hey@savewalter.com from your account address. Where in-app deletion is available in the Walter app, it can be found under Settings → Account and data → Delete account.
Connected-account revocation
You can disconnect a supported provider in the Walter app under Settings → Connected accounts → Disconnect. Disconnecting stops Walter from making further authorized requests to that service. Where the provider also offers its own authorization settings — TikTok, for example — you can revoke Walter's access there as well.
Security
Libraries are private by default, connections are encrypted in transit, per-user database authorization restricts access to your own rows, and provider credentials are held server-side. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to respond quickly to issues. See Security.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when Walter changes. The effective date is shown at the top of this page, and material changes will be communicated by email or in the app before they take effect.
